Determined by Design are a team of forward thinking, socially conscious interior designers based in Washington D.C, USA
The firm's reputation had grown over the years with a range of high profile projects and clients, but the website had little attention and was in need of a redesign to showcase everything they had to offer to new and prospective clientele.
DBD wanted a site which expressed the teams work ethic and personality; the things which set them apart from their competitors.
A blank slate with a brand new identity
When Determined by Design (DBD) approached us, they had just undergone a brand refresh which they were yet to put into effect. In addition to our standard website design process, we made sure we would consider how the new brand could be portrayed through the visual UI of the site. A challenge we were happy to jump into.
During this project It was a pleasure getting a insight into the world of Determined by Design, a black and indigenous owned company. From the beginning we could really understand the message they wanted to portray with their work and really wanted this to come through in the site.
DBD had a rich library of content to work with although there was no final choices on which images/videos to use and where. We wanted to make sure the content would compliment the experience so took time to go through everything supplied and make considered design choices during the visual design phase done in Figma.
We approached every page with the same care and consideration, keeping in mind the values of the team as well as the brands identity and consistency across the site.
The results
After designing all 11+ screens in Figma for all screen sizes, we applied subtle animation to the majority of the site as well as a few more complex animation to experiences which required some more attention such as the designequity™ values created by the team.
Although not part of the original scope, we decided the site would benefit from a introduction after seeing all the content about DBD online and the founders roots. It was too good not to share on their site in a visual way. The intro brings users into the mindset of DBD before getting stuck into snippets of important information or links which a potential client would benefit from seeing.
The site now offers the flexibility for Determined by Design to showcase project galleries including separate “colour stories” which go into the detail about the themes and patterns behind each project. We supplied tutorial videos and support for the team so they can easily create new projects and edit the site where applicable with ease.
In the end we were able to create a professional site whilst bringing a injection of personality throughout the site at the same time.
